Aquaporin Inside® writes industrial history and secures food contact material compliance

Aquaporin has, as the first company ever in industrial history, secured Food Contact Material (FCM) compliance for the Aquaporin Inside® technology – a pioneering technology, which utilizes the power of natural membrane proteins, produced in an industrial process.

As part of the FCM compliance process, Aquaporin has received an FCM compliance letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This entails that Aquaporin’s proprietary Aquaporin Inside® technology can be used as food contact material in industrial processes. The compliance letter covers the use of the Aquaporin Inside® technology across all product platforms, making a whole new range of Aquaporin membranes available for the Food & Beverage industry.

Based on the FCM safety evaluation, the FDA has declared that our membranes are safe for use in food concentration and food processing applications. The FDA thereby allows Food & Beverage producers and brands in the U.S. and other markets, including the EU, who follow the same safety standards as the U.S. FDA, to take advantage of the uniqueness of the Aquaporin Inside® technology.

We are very proud to pioneer this field, and for the first time in history secure a positive FDA safety evaluation of an industrially produced membrane protein to secure approval for use in food processing.

PROMISING OUTLOOK FOR THE F&B INDUSTRY

Demand for natural products and ingredients is one of the strongest trends in the Food & Beverage industry, at an estimated 5 Bn USD market size in 2020 and growing. The desire is to retain and preserve all the natural flavors, nutrients, and aromas during processing. Natural food products can have hundreds of different flavor compounds, often volatile, that gives it its unique taste. Retaining all of these is something that is difficult to achieve with the existing technologies.

Aquaporin has developed a superior cold concentration technology, which retains the full range of flavor of natural food products better than the concentrations currently on the market.
