From wind and waves to filters and flow

Windsurfing is not for the faint-hearted. It demands precision, heightened awareness of your surroundings, and the ability to adapt in real time. For Eva Maria Cabrera Alvarez, the ocean feels like second nature - a space where focus sharpens, instincts kick in, and joy meets challenge.
That same mindset carries over into her professional life. As a Process Engineer in the Commercial Engineering Forward Osmosis team at Aquaporin, Eva channels her attention to detail and systems thinking into optimizing and testing solutions in the Food & Beverage segment. Much like reading the wind and water, her work requires careful calibration of variables to make things flow just right.
“I have always wanted to work within food science, but combining my master’s with a degree in chemical engineering allows me to take on a lot of different projects,” she explains.
Both on the board and in the office, Eva is driven by curiosity and a desire to understand how things work beneath the surface. That mindset fuels her approach at Aquaporin, where progress comes through patience, precision, and persistence.
Student turned key component
Eva’s journey at Aquaporin began during her master’s studies at the University of Copenhagen, where she joined as a student helper, and she now works full-time.
Originally from Cádiz - a historic coastal city in Andalucía, Spain - she brought with her not only academic ambition but also the calm focus of someone used to navigating both waves and complexity.
“I always want to learn, and I felt like I could learn the most from working in a company that combined my interests with my studies, so I’m really happy about that,” says Eva, and continues:
“I learn something new all the time and get to grow as a person, both professionally and personally. I am doing a lot of on-site work, but I’m also in a lot of meetings - both within my team and with external partners. I really like that I’m applying my knowledge where I can make a difference.”
This mix of hands-on work and collaboration is what makes Eva’s role as a Process Engineer so engaging. Whether she’s fine-tuning electronics, running tests, or aligning with partners, she brings the same calm focus and responsiveness that guide her across the water - adjusting to conditions, solving problems in the moment, and always moving forward.
