Drinking water

Beat plastic pollution one drop of water at a time

Over the last decade, bottled water consumption has grown by more than 10 % a year. By eliminating the need for bottled water, we have found a way to break the polluted curve while providing safe drinking water to all.

If you can quench your thirst with tap water, you are one of the lucky ones. In fact, only 55 % of Europeans drink water directly from the tap. When viruses, bacteria, bad taste and odor make tap water undrinkable, people are forced to find other solutions and unfortunately many resort to bottled water.

This has culminated in the shocking amount of 106 liters of bottled water consumed by an average EU citizen annually. Worldwide, a million plastic bottles were sold every single minute in 2017, and sales are predicted to increase.

AN OCEAN OF PLASTIC

UN’s Sustainable Development Goal number 14, Life Below Water, focuses on the conservation of our ocean and marine life. For decades, plastic pollution has been ruining ecosystems above and beyond the sea surface, and according to research by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. And it doesn’t stop there.

The plastic in our nature and ocean ultimately ends up in the food we eat and the water we drink. In fact, we are each ingesting around 5 grams of microplastics a week according to an analysis commissioned by WWF. If you have a hard time wrapping your head around the amount, know that a credit card weighs the same.

A SEA CHANGE BROUGHT TO LIFE BY AQUAPORIN

At Aquaporin, we contribute to the fight against plastic pollution by making tap water a valid option, and with our unique purification technology, we can eliminate the microplastics you consume through tap water.

We know it can be difficult to figure out how to contribute to a more sustainable future. According to the European Commission, access to better quality water can reduce bottled water consumption by 17 %. By installing a ZERO water purifier under your sink, you can take matters into your own hands and safely drink the water from your tap – no matter where you are in the world. One drop of water at a time, ZERO enables you to take action against plastic pollution and access clean and safe drinking water.
