Dear Past Julianna: An Aquaporin Academy Story

Aquaporin, Nymøllevej 78, DK-2800 Kongens Lyngby, June 12, 2024

Dear Past Julianna,

As I sit here, reflecting on my journey over the past year, I remember when you, Julianna of the past, decided to move to Copenhagen for an internship at Aquaporin Academy. I know you felt a blend of excitement and trepidation. It was a big leap into the unknown, leaving behind the familiar and stepping into a world filled with new challenges and opportunities.

From the very first day at Aquaporin, you were warmly welcomed. Your colleagues understood that you were not only learning about new, complex technology but also navigating the dynamics of a professional work environment. And for sure, your easy-going personality and willingness to face challenges meshed perfectly with the patient guidance of the team and the supportive atmosphere around you. Remember how you grew a little more confident each day, asking more advanced questions and diving deeper into your projects.

One of the highlights of your journey was the camaraderie with Rebecca and the other interns. The friendships you formed were not just social comforts but pivotal elements of your professional development. Together, you navigated the learning curves, supported each other through challenges, and celebrated your successes. This network of support made the tough days manageable and the good ones even better.

Don’t be afraid of making mistakes or even flooding the floor (this will happen, but you’ll handle it perfectly). Mistakes are part of the learning process and built a strong foundation for your confidence in membrane technology. Be proactive, ask questions, and take initiative. Building connections and being genuinely curious about your work will open doors you didn’t even know existed. Embrace the lunches in the canteen; eating together allows you to explore your field and gain broader perspectives within the organization. Each lunch is different, and that variety makes it beautiful.

Looking back, I am proud of not just the academic and professional milestones but also the personal growth and confidence that came with each step. Moving to Copenhagen, working at Aquaporin, and writing my thesis – all these experiences have prepared me well for the future.

So, dear Julianna of the past, take that leap of faith. Trust in your ability to adapt and thrive. The journey will be challenging, but it will be worth every moment. Your future self is grateful for the courage and determination you showed.

With warmest regards,

Present Julianna
